Few schools match UNC's net overall athletic success. The football team isn't bad enough to sabotage 1st place in NC (yet).

Academics — Duke

Duke remains the state's academic gold standard with one of the strongest reputations in the country.

Party School — East Carolina

Most Underrated — UNC Wilmington & Appalachian State

Both schools offer outstanding college experiences that deserve more national attention. Beach or Mountains, take your pick

Best Dorms — High Point

High Point continues to set the standard with some of the nicest residence halls in the country.

Most Beers Per Semester — NC State

A huge student body, strong tailgating culture, and Raleigh nightlife give NC State the edge.

Alumni Network — North Carolina

Clemson's sustained success across multiple sports, led by football, makes it the state's top athletic program. It's been a rough few years but they still take the cake.

Party School — Coastal Carolina

UF has established itself as Florida's academic leader with one of the strongest public university reputations in the nation.

Party School — Florida State

Tallahassee's nightlife, Greek life, and football weekends make FSU the state's premier party school. Arguably #1 in the country.

College Town — Florida State

Tallahassee revolves around FSU, creating one of the best college atmospheres in the South.

Most Students — UCF

Overall Athletics — Virginia

The Cavaliers' success across basketball, baseball, lacrosse, soccer, and Olympic sports gives them the edge. One of the most slept on athletic departments.

Academics — Virginia

UVA continues to be the state's premier academic institution with one of the strongest public university reputations in the country.

Party School — James Madison

JMU has built a reputation for an energetic social scene and one of the most active student cultures in Virginia.

All three bring something different and can get overshadowed by Pennsylvania's biggest national brands.

Villanova's dorm options gives it a slight edge over other PA schools.

A massive student body and State College greek life put Penn State on top.

Kentucky's college scene is built around basketball and some of the best college sports fans in the region. Here are the picks we think make the most sense.

Louisville's success across all sports Cardinals the edge. Kentucky fans hated this pick on IG, but they just lost 41-0 in football. I would probably be mad too.

Academics — Kentucky

Tennessee has 2 SEC campuses and an elite city in Nashville. On top of that some seriously underrated college scenes that know how to have a good time.

Between fan support and their success across multiple sport, Tennessee is the easy pick. Though, the gap has closed of late.

Academics — Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt's national academic reputation gives them the edge. One of the best schools in P4.

Party School — East Tennessee State, Chattanooga, & Middle Tennessee

ETSU, Chattanooga, and MTSU bring strong social scenes and students that like to have a good time.

College Town — Tennessee

Knoxville delivers the best combination of college-town energy while also having a lot to do and opportunities.

Texas College Superlatives 2026:

No state has a deeper or more competitive college landscape than Texas. Huge athletic brands, massive campuses, and completely different college cultures make almost every category debatable.

Overall Athletics — Texas

Texas' combination of championships, resources, and success across major sports gives the Longhorns the edge. They just won the governors cup, making this pretty easy.

Academics — Rice

Rice's elite academic reputation and selectivity make it the state's academic leader.

Party School — Texas Tech & Texas State

Lubbock and San Marcos both have legitimate claims as two of the state's biggest party-school environments.

College Town — Texas A&M

College Station is built around A&M, creating one of the strongest pure college-town environments in Texas. The biggest college bubble in the state where everything is bigger.

Austin on a Longhorn football weekend gives Texas the edge. Tailgates setup as far as the eye can see.

Texas students get Austin, one of the strongest combinations of nightlife, food, music, jobs, and entertainment of any college city. Top 5 postgrad city in the country.

Most Underrated — Baylor, Houston, Tarleton State & North Texas

Texas has enough depth for several picks here, with each offering a ton of different perks.

Best Dorms — SMU

SMU's residential facilities and campus environment make it a strong choice.

Most Beers Per Semester — Texas State

San Marcos' party reputation and huge social scene make Texas State the pick.

Alumni Network — Texas A&M

The Aggie Network's size, loyalty, and reputation for helping fellow graduates give A&M the edge. Is it a cult? Probably.

 

Louisiana College Superlatives 2026:

Louisiana is home to two of the funnest colleges in the country. From Baton Rouge and New Orleans both offer very different college experiences, but with a similar New Orleans charm.

LSU's national championships and success across multiple major sports make this an easy pick.

Tulane's national academic reputation and selectivity put it at the top of the state.

Tulane has New Orleans, while LSU has the massive SEC party culture. Both are legitimate A tier options depending on what you want.
